Principle Investigator

Dr. Walko co-founded the research program at Advanced Pain Management primarily to help patients. He is a Board Certified Physiatrist who has been providing valued service for 13 years to men and women who have been afflicted with pain related ailments. He has also been working as a research physician on numerous pain related clinical studies for 9 years. He is the principal investigator for research studies of low back pain, osteoarthritis of the knee, chronic pain and fibromyalgia.

Dr. Walko’s use of current treatment modalities for pain and his desire to assist with the measurement and development of new treatment interventions has rewarded him with a rich medical knowledge base.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Dr. Walko earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biology at Old Dominion University. He earned his D.O. degree at Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1990. While in medical school he completed a pre-doctoral Fellowship in Manual Medicine, and then served a one-year internship in general medicine at Chicago Osteopathic Hospital. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Sinai Hospital/Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1994, he joined Advanced Pain Management.

Dr. Walko is certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as Pain Management. He has headed hospital inpatient rehabilitation units and a trauma rehabilitation program. Currently he serves as a co-medical director of The Therapy Network.
