Robert Spear, D.O.
Sub Investigator

Dr. Spear began his research work as a basic scientist in Biochemistry. While in medical school, he was heavily involved in Giant Cell cancer research, and in the decades since has eagerly engaged in multiple clinical research projects. His particular focus has been on head, neck and spine related pain studies.

Dr. Spear earned his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. He completed his Internship at Brighton Medical Center and completed a three-year residency in Family Practice/Internal Medicine at Yale University/Norwalk Hospital. During his residency at the University of Alabama in the specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, he was chosen as Chief Resident. He was very active in clinical research while training at this national research center.

Since completion of his specialty training and achieving Board Certification, Dr. Spear has continued his teaching and research most vigorously. He has been the Medical Director of the Headache Program at Spineworks since 1998. Dr. Spear has been a speaker on the national and international level on the subject of head and neck pain, as well as spasticity. He was on a national advisory board for the use of Botox for spasticity, and remains active in his pursuit of cutting edge treatment for today’s pain challenges.

The ability of our pain center to be so directly involved in the tertiary studies, allows our patients to receive, when appropriate, the latest advances in pain treatment.
